I have been using Streamyx in Malaysia for about 5 years now. Basically because there was nothing much else affordable. But that situation of monopoly by Telecom Malaysia has been broken the past few years...
Basically, I still use streamyx, but lately I started looking at www.izzi.com.my, who uses Mobile Wireless Broadband. I noticed them on the computerfairs multiple times and lately I met Justin Seah Kok Yew, (justinseah@izzi.net.my) who gave a convincing demonstration and lended us two test-unit for some days, to see it would do the trick. And so it did. It's working and very simple. No cable, no hustle, no complicated configurations. Basically we are talking plug and play here, not the plug and pray like I had to witness one too many times already with streamyx... Sorry to say so.
I don't easily recommend providers, but we have been having soo much trouble with our fixed line lately (i am talking being disconnected for like 4 days in a row) so how can you explain that to a customer who just upgraded their line from 88 rm to 600 rm and they still get the same speed. Right. You can't explain that. Nothing to do with Malaysia by the way. More something with the way how streamyx sells their product to the market.
I think that many companies will consider (and they should look at other options, than just coppercable) and ammend if not switch the coppercable for something modern.
More to come later on the Izzi Box, but I can already tell that it's working perfect and gave me no headaches (yet), something I cannot always say from streamyx...
Here is the www.izzi.com.my speed-test I did. Seems acceptable.
