I still like this joke and I had to think of an imaginary (so far) Ebay Seller trying to sell something with voice-support. I guess it would look something like this (click, it’s funny).

Surely in the future there will be a fight to buy online advertising space on the google earth. Seeing a logo and an image / logo on a virtual world (Google Earth in this case) can be compared to seeing in the real world. There will be hot clicked icons and images. So many things (apart advertising) you could with these two technologies combined.

As far as I know this is the first GPS-based Skype – telephony book on the world. The only problem is that you don’t know who you are really talking to since everybody can (might) create their own accounts.

I was justing thinking about the concept of the one armed bandit. Imagine that you could login to a skype-box in which you can «slot in» a 1 euro gift-voucher (legally obtained from Skype). Then the wheel would turn and you can win another voucher or more vouchers. Simple. Insert Coin for new game.

I am sure the chinese would love this. We could call it the callto://the.luckynumber or something.

Elaborate on the «Skype-Casino». So much more you can do with Skype than just dialtoning and chatting. 

Of course there would be problems if you set up gambling systems on Skype, so it’s not really my thing but link this. But for advertising this could be useful and probably more noble, then again, business is not about being noble. Or is it ?

For example creating a small cdrom with some skype software on it (skype.exe; the original) and discoverable voucher-code would be neat. I would prefer to buy the hardware with the extra credit and the affiliate software. That cdrom of could contain the best of the best skype software.

Skype Advertising

I think Ebay / Paypal will have a public skype version that pushes add-content to the skype-cloud. How else can you get revenue from auction-driven voice content ? The vendors on Ebay will want to reach the skype population. Right ? Just look at the MSN Messenger which has an Ebay-tab.

Why not have group-account with authorized Ebay resellers that you can add to your contact-list.

I think Skype should make one with James T. Kirk from the Enterprise with a slogan like «I will Skype you!» (cfr. the original smyte/smite you or sth. like that). And Yappernut could make one with Scotty talking to his mouse. It’s really possible now.

Any money left in the 2.6. billion for a good visual add ?

Skype for Business : but what about Support and Consulting.

It’s raining «Skype for Business» news-items…. read this … « but the market segment better start thinking about IT management on an out-sourced basis too. Things like security, bandwidth needs and allocation, updates.». source. Very right. Maybe look beyond the boxes, the marketing. Define the business requirements and then buy from professional who can sell, install, deploy, maintain and support. I am convinced most of the Skype Business Solutions (software, hardware) are working nicely. But without sales– and sales-support it will fail. Just like anything that is more important a mouse, which will be connecting to a computer. No support : no recurrent sales, therefore ask yourself who will do the recurrent sale. My take on the Skype for Business is that most issues that business want to see addressed are not addressed currently and those issues are :

• manageability
• accountability
• scalability
• issues on impersonation and identity-theft
• proper authentication and other security issues
• reporting features

Like I said many (based on experience and theorising) : any company who has serious security procedures in place will question Skype on these matter. Any competitor of Skype who addresses these issues in a serious way (not by quickly recompiling their dot.com site into a dot.biz site…) will take a piece of the cake.

Skype might be the appetiser for certain companies who are looking for the main dish of IP business solutions. Recurrent sales… If the problems are not solved in the next quarter, they will come back in the next quarter and so and so on.

I love the current version Skype.exe (for the public) but I miss the present Skype business.exe for the Business-world (small, medium or huge, all the same). By the way. the skype-business.exe is something that should carry the slogan «This world cannot call for free». I never walk into a business-meeting-room, with the slogan «I am for free on my head».

Intel, AMD, Skype Hack and the dead body guy

I never considered the whole AMD/Skype/Intel story such a big thing, but okay anyways. I see the point, but actually if you set up rooms with 4 x 10 managers and 1 sensitive mike you can have all of them (40) talk properly over a basic adsl connection. But okay yes, what works for intel must work for amd also.
