Skype gateways and IP PABX Systems - overview of the different ways to link skype to traditional telephony-systems.

source : www.voip-info.org/wiki-Skype+Gateways. One of the best resource I could find so far. Nice overview of certain products.

A list of products that can be used to connect non-PC devices to the Skype network.

Skype itself is available for Windows, Mac OSX, Linux and Pocket-PCs, but for all (the smarter ones) of the products are at this time only windows driver available.

Of course there is the Skype PSTN Gateway (SkypeOut) and Skype-to-SIP/H.323 gateway PSGw 2.0

but you may want to be able to make Skype calls from your Asterisk box, traditional phone, cordless phone, etc.

Note: Due to intentional license restrictions by SKYPE it appears not to be possible to directly connect a VoIP caller (SIP, IAX, ...) with a Skype caller. The only thinkable but clumsy workaround appears to be a "VoIP to analog (POTS) to Skype" gateway construction, that still requires the Skype-to-POTS part to rely on an USB linked workstation which has a Skype software client up and running.
Update: The "Extras Gallery" (Skype third-party products) now list tools like PSGw (needs Skype client, only 1 concurrent call, Windows only) and VoxLib (apparently links to a Skype client thru USB) that offer Skype-to-VoIP interconnectivity. Next to this "jajah" seems to operate a server-based Skype gateway.
Stop the press: After some interaction with the developer of PSGw I am delighted to announce that the interface between Skype and SIP works like a charm, and at the remarkably good voice quality often reported by Skype users. We run PSGw with single Skype account to receive calls and route them to our telephone operator, to be forwarded on our Asterisk PBX to the intended recipient (or conference box). I promised to eat my earlier words if the product worked: Done.
