Yesterday I fired up my Skype video session at the heart of p1.com.my office. Now note that in the office (if you work there) of www.p1.com.my, they are not allowed to use Skype... But this is besides the point. Just take a look at the figures of what Skype eates from a P1 Wimax line. We'll get back to this later.
What also interests me of the www.p1.com.my guys is what their phone/voip solution consists of and how far they are willing to go with this.
Me personally, I won't be buying www.p1.com.my for the sake of telephony, but if this p1.com.my and the backbone keeps up it's speed, this would be a good solution to attach to a VoIP/PBX or IP/PBX.
The point is that we can talk about web 2.0. and high speed internet applications, but you must get people online with these kind of boxes and keep them online. High end applications (web20, video) need quality of service.
I don't mind paying per megabyte if I reach a certain over-usage of a line. Maybe there is a business model there for the likes of p1...
I have been running the box called 802.16e Wimax mode for 2 days now at half speed at the 19th floor and I am still happy.
Got some questions but we'll get to that when we get there.
